Two-wheelers accounted for the highest share in total road crashes

  Two-wheeler accounted for the highest share in total road crashes (1,62,280), contributing 33.8%, followed by cars, jeeps and taxis (1,13,267) contributing 23.6% and trucks, tempos, tractors and other articulated vehicles (1,01,085) contributing 21.0% and buses (37,487) contributing 7.8% to total road crash fatalities. 


 According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, 1,50,785 people were killed and another 4,94,624 were injured in 4,80,652 road crashes in India in 2016. This translates into 1317 crashes and 413 deaths every day or 55 crashes and 17 deaths every hour. The number of road crash deaths have increased by 31% from 2007 to 2017 and that of fatal road crashes have increased by 25.6% in the same period. Road crash fatalities increased by 3% in the last one year (from 1,46,133 in 2015 to 1,50,785 in 2016) and accident severity2 increased from 29.1 in 2015 to 31.4 in 2016. The number of fatal accidents has increased consistently since 2005 and saw a sharp rise from 1,31,726 in 2015 to 1,36,071 in 2016.

ROAD SAFETY FOUNDATION developed practical tools and systems including an interactive training methodology which could work even with illiterate drivers. The entire course is covered by classroom Lecture session, supported with visual aid, Video Films, and Multimedia Presentations. Road Safety Foundation has developed research-based driver training courses that are comprehensive, practical, and meet the requirements of different stake holders in the Indian environment.

  • Two Wheeler courses consist of class-room theory.
  • Diverse road user behaviour .
  • Road markings and traffic signs 
  • Road Rules- traffic laws,  Sharing the road, courtesy and etiquette.
  • Factors influencing driving – stress, alcohol and drugs.
  • Appropriate speed and following distance.
  • Driving under difficult and potentially dangerous conditions – weather, terrain, traffic, visibility.
  • Defensive driving Technics.
  • hazard perception, 
  • Riding posture, Riding Gears(Essential Safety equipment and clothing (helmet, shoes, jackets,)  
  • braking in emergency.
  • intersection approach, overtaking,
  • Preventive maintenance.
  • Accident related first aid.

Module-2 (Classroom, Practical, Assessment & Certification Progarm) -Full Day
